Hello friends and scattered family in Messiah!
Towards the end of our Hanukkah/winter break from work and school we took a FIELD TRIP to a Children's Museum (very interactive stations/centers for learning and play) The kids had a blast!! We do need to go back soon for a full day. This visit was only about 4 hours and it's just not enough time to see all the cool stuff and play till we drop. But we visited the: Dinosphere, upstairs over the dinosphere they have dinosaur pictures the kids can color and then scan and they become living cartoons on the wall for awhile. We visited the "Agriculture center" which teaches about: farming, the water cycle, (with a fun water table the kids can play at), diagnosing different diseases on crops, minerals, native animals to this state etc We also visited the Cultural exhibit where the country of focus for the moment is Greece. --And they visited the seasonal winter exhibit with lots of ice and snow related games. AND...drum roll..... everyone went down the 2 story winter slide you can see in the picture above and the carousel. Those are a must. However, it was an excellent way to ease back into learning time and close out our break! As with any location we visit for a field trip...here is the site if you would like more information: The Children's Museum of Indianapolis (childrensmuseum.org) YOU CAN NOW CONNECT WITH US ON FACEBOOK HERE! : Pursuing the upward call | Facebook This is a public "personal blog" pg via Facebook to make it easier for readers to connect and share. Hello scattered family and friends in Messiah! I hope you all are doing well. Wow, friends, I just need to exhale... do you ever feel that way? The past 6 weeks or so illness has swept through our family; wave after wave. From me taking about 2 weeks to recover and then 1 child, then another... Nothing unmanageable: low grade fevers, cough, congestion...and 1 instance of throwing up from a forceful bout of coughing.... We went to our family dr whom we love. She is primarily holistic in approach and advised what I had thought in the 1st place... time, and rest. Our school day typically starts around 8am. But, one of the blessings of homeschool is THAT flexibility. So the 2 that are sick have been able to sleep until they wake on their own which has been between 9am-10am. Our youngest was doing letter practice work about 2 days ago...and I said, "You look tired, you want to lay down and take a nap for a bit?" He said: "No, I'm fine...." I turned back to check on him and he was asleep. I covered him up and he just took about an hr nap. The "schedule" went out the window. We did school when they felt ok to do it. Some things got pushed to a different day, naps happened as needed, breaks abounded etc. This may not be a big deal to you....but for my personality learning to love flexibility is a learning curve. I can struggle with being regimented even when it's not needed. Because, I function best in an environment of "order." But YHWH is using this homeschool blessing to even teach me it's ok to "let go," embrace the freedom and love the children in their rest and through the tides of life as it ebbs and flows "out of order." This blessing is one I certainly do not take lightly. They would have no such liberty in a standard school setting public or private. This is the blessing of homeschooling them as YHWH has directed/convicted us. Among many benefits we have experienced.... As we roll into Yom Teruah/The Feast of Trumpets & Shabbat we are going to wade into that rest and simply enjoy the: time, celebration, memories, and rejuvenation. How are you with structure and flexibility in: life, relationships, or homeschool? For those who will be celebrating: HAPPY FEAST OF TRUMPETS/YOM TERUAH!!!! The 3 pictures above are the curriculum selections for the 2023-2024 school year! We do give flexibility to the kids to pick their choice of science, and electives. The 1st picture for our up and coming 6th grader she chose General Science 1 that comes with the 4 books: Astronomy, Weather, Mineral, Ocean, and 2 electives: Living Healthy, and a video American Sign Language (ASL class) Our up and coming 5th grader is picture #2 and he chose Zoology for science and also Living Healthy so he can do that class with his sister. He is also taking Elementary Biblical Apologetics. Our up and coming 3rd grader selected Adventures on Planet Earth for science with an elective of Cursive, and the video course of ASL as well. I am going to be working on the first few months of lesson plans over the summer break. As well as, finishing up my courses with AAPC for my CPC medical coding certification, at last. After completing the certification exam it will be nice to finally be back down to work, homeschooling, and ministry assistance with my husband. The past 2 years of: work, homeschooling, AAPC school (part-time), and ministry has been quite the experience. But Yah is faithful and has always made the way before us. HalleluYah! In addition to the curriculum...our school day is typically over by 1-1:30 and with that we like to enjoy family and fun time together. Homeschool freedom at it's best. Happy homeschool planning for 2023-2024! * Our base curriculum is Homeschool (masterbooks.com) * along with supplements: IXL, Spectrum, Thinking Tree for devotionals, and Life Skills YOU CAN NOW CONNECT WITH US ON OUR FACEBOOK HERE! Phil 4:13 *side note DISCLAIMER: I do not receive compensation from ANY of the resources I share or use. They are just resources, curriculum, etc that have blessed our family and may bless yours!* Hello scattered friends and family in Messiah Yeshua! Today's post is just a few of the things we utilize to keep home and school organized. ENJOY! Recently we added the rolling cart (seen above) to our homeschool and it has worked marvelously! The top bin is for me, and the next 3 bins are for our children. {art boxes and each book I need to grade their individual class work} This way I am not carrying 12 + books everyday back and forth. The cart just gets rolled into the area where we are doing school. Each child has a binder with divider folders by subject. 1 side of the folder has a month of work in it and the other side is where I put their graded papers for the wk. Each day I can pull out the work for the day, after grading it, it goes in the other side of the folder until Friday. Likewise, each subject "section" has notes and re-usable aids to help them in their work. Instead of laminating we just put the papers in sheet protectors and the kids can use a dry erase marker on those and wipe it clean to be re-used. This is the 1st year I have used a lesson plan and it has helped tremendously. I just got mine from Hobby Lobby but you can find them all over. The last picture is of a blank version of the grading app (bleow). The app is available on google play store or the apple store for free. I set it up so that each child has a profile with their classes assigned to them. The Grade Pal app totals their percentage out of points available.
I assign the letter grade on the basis of the above grading scale. ie:88.6% =B+ if it is bordering two letter grades for example 89.6% is bordering a B+ or A- if the decimal is .5% or higher it is rounded to the next grade so the 89.6% would be graded =90% A- if it were 89.4% it would = B+. I would like to note in our state -> grade keeping is not required. I choose to keep grades (for myself) to have a general idea & record of how the kids are doing. The benefit of homeschooling is when troubles arise...we can "pause" and practice until they catch on before moving ahead. These are just a few of the organization tools that we use. Every homeschool adjusts as needed to what works for you and your family!! What a fun adventure may your journey be blessed in Messiah Yeshua! YOU CAN NOW CONNECT WITH US ON OUR FACEBOOK HERE! Phil 4:13 *side note DISCLAIMER: I do not receive compensation from ANY of the resources I share or use. They are just resources, curriculum, etc that have blessed our family and may bless yours!* Hello friends and scattered family in Messiah! We utilize Masterbooks for all book work in core subjects (and supplement as needed) these 2 images come from "Language Lessons for a Living Education, levels 4 & 5" Masterbooks is a non-denominational curriculum but as we all know Shabbat and the Feasts of Adonai are in the Bible with specific instructions. This post is really just to take a moment and appreciate the curriculum for having these things woven in at the appropriate time of year so that as: Messiah following, Torah Observant believers, Shabbat, and Feast keepers we can have these beautiful and easy to understand lessons to teach our children! It is woven into Language as a reading comprehension lesson. This was the case in previous years as well it is a blessing upon our children and family!
(*side note, Masterbooks does also mention "Christmas" while our children do know what Christmas is because of our history and extended family - we do remove those and related lessons/crafts, but the focus on Biblical Holy Days is heavier) Until next time: May Adonai bless and keep you as you: press on pursuing the goal for the reward of the upward calling of God in Messiah Yeshua. Phil 4:13 *side note DISCLAIMER: I do not receive compensation from ANY of the resources I share or use. They are just resources, curriculum, etc that have blessed our family and may bless yours!* Hello friends and readers! I hope you all are doing well. We have come to the last week of school! The kids are excited, I am excited --- we are all ready for a break :) We encourage the kids to spend a lot of time outdoors in the spring and summer (electronics are definitely limited).... Right now they did just start spring sports Baseball for 2 of them and Soccer for the other. Summer break will be spent at Grandma and Grandpa's house. They will have a small pool set up in the back yard about 3 ft deep and 12 ft across and a swing set. Grandpa makes sure they get plenty of exercise with regular: 5-7 mile bike rides, roller blading excursions, walks, hikes, tag, hid & seek etc. On the weekends we do sometimes fill in family time with visits to a local water park or park/playground as well. With the occasional family vacation as well. Plenty of: sun, fun, popsicles, friends, family, and memories. We try to keep things simple. Hopefully, all of these summers spent with grandma and grandpa will be memories the kids will cherish as they get older and recall with fondness and love. Do you have any plans for your kiddos this summer to keep them occupied? What do you and your family do to keep busy and make memories? Until next time, Blessings and Shalom as you continue to "pursue the upward calling of God in Messiah Yeshua"-Phil 4:13 Hello scattered friends and family in Messiah! I hope each and every one of you is doing well. Many of you have known I am in school, with AAPC, some of you may not have known. I did recently mention in a previous post that I am : Working full-time, homeschooling 3 kiddos, the taxi to their sports, and troops activities, assisting with the back-end of a functioning ministry/church, leading a ladies Bible Study, and taking online CPT medical coding school at night + family and household duties as a wife/mommy it is a full schedule.... {although my husband is amazing he helps often and with what he can and the children do have assigned chores} This is temporary as well. So at long last I am taking the final class of my 1st planned CPT CPC medial coding certification! Just started this week! But why did I go back to school at all? Well, during the height of C*VID I nearly got fired from my job. I did obtain Prior Authorizations for chemotherapy/infusions, and general surgeries. But due to my personal medical choices had my job placed on the line. Later, this unfolded with the other options available such as religious exemption as pushback kicked into gear. Anyhow, after much discussion and prayer...my husband and I determined that it would be wise for me to look for a "skill set" that would:
The goal being that if when we so choose I can move to working part-time to focus more on the children, and homeschooling, them- while still maintaining my same pay rate because my skill set has increased, AND still work from home. By obtaining certification in this field it is not as disposable a position. Technically, yes any position can be disposed of. However, it does require education and a particular skill-set to replace so, it in that regard it is not as easy. All of that to say, this was not my pursuit of my career goals above my family. Actually quite the opposite, my ministry to my family is my first priority and responsibility. This opportunity, and education will allow me more time to be available to them working from home and eventually part-time instead of full-time. This new job I recently started is already willing to work with me once I am certified. As we wind down the kids' school yr with about 2 weeks left.... this is where the summer leads me. Heavily aimed on wrapping this up with the goal of not having as much on my plate next school yr 2022-2023 by completing this program and certification. No guarantees... but it's a goal. It's been a really challenging year in the making.... "Adonai- He is the one who goes before you. he will be with you. he will not fail you or abandon you. Do not fear or be discouraged"- Deut 31:8 TLV Until next time, Blessings and Shalom as you continue to "pursue the upward calling of God in Messiah Yeshua"-Phil 4:13 |
