OK, so both of these little experiments were LOTS of fun and very simple
Our 4th grade daughter is doing: Heaven & Earth "God's Design for Life" and our youngest son is doing Adventures in Creation One point I definitely LOVE this year about Masterbooks is although both kids are doing work intellectually and age appropriate their lessons glide by each other in the same areas often as happened here. Our daughter is learning about: clouds, thunderstorms, tornados etc and our son was learning about clouds at the same time. So the "make it rain in a jar" came from Adventures in Creation for 1st grade. This experiment was done with room temp water, shaving cream, and *food coloring of your choice. The color seeps through "the cloud" and the kids can watch it fall down. The "make a cloud in a jar" came from Heaven & Earth "God's Design for Life" and there are apparently several ways to do this... I accidentally threw the directions away but, hey, that's what YouTube is for! How to Make a Cloud Science Experiment - YouTube We used boiling water, hairspray, and ice cubes to make our lil cloud. The kids had a blast and it was a fun and interactive way to review the water cycle and clouds! I hope you enjoy if you try this with your kiddos! Feel free to leave a response/comment on how it turns out for you! Be blessed as you "pursue the upward call of God in Messiah Yeshua"- Phil 4:13 TLV

In case you cannot read the spelling words they are: 1) Union 2) Confederate 3) parallel 4)vertical 5) horizontal 6)curvy 7)spiral 8) scalloped 9) temperature 10) meteorology 11) precipitation 12) climate 13) humidity 14) weather Although our daughter does not like when we come around to a spelling list every 8 weeks or so where I make the list because she knows I will pick challenging words....after practicing/studying these yesterday and today she got a 100% on spelling city--and the smile of earned satisfaction on her face was awesome "Momma look! I got them all right!!" Which also became a learning moment. You did get them all correct because..... And she said: "I can do all things through Messiah." Amen! You are capable and you can do hard things....and you can do ALL things through Him get it princess! *spelling tests are on Friday the kids practice throughout the wk* I love being able to experience this accomplishments and challenge the children! This was an awesome experience. Do you have any similar stories or experiences with your kids? How do you challenge them in a healthy way? Please leave your thoughts or comments! Be blessed in Messiah Yeshua friends Shabbat school craft!
But his delight is in the Torah of Adonai, and on His Torah he meditates day and night. He will be like a planted tree over streams of water, producing its fruit during its season. Its leaf never droops— but in all he does, he succeeds. Psalms 1:2-3 TLV We aim to do a craft every week and this was last week! Maybe something quick and easy you can do with your kiddos! Be blessed in Messiah Yeshua friends and scattered family! Hi everyone! I just thought this may be fun to walk through... I don't know how anyone else's day unfolds but this is pretty typical for us. I wake up around 6:45 to clock in for work by 7:30am and finish work anywhere between 4 and 6pm....but ...the kids schedule is much more flexible because we are at home. Over time though we have developed a "rhythm" to our day. But I do give flexibility and in this way they are learning how to manage their time.
A day in the life: 4th grade: 9:00 -9:30am wake up-> have breakfast {optional tv time}= 2 episodes or 1 movie of something approved by mom 10:30am devotional More Than Words 2 11:00am language arts worksheet introducing Helping Verbs, Linking verbs, and state of being verbs 12:00 BREAK played outside riding bikes 12:30pm IXL identify main verbs and helping verbs activity 1:00pm LUNCH 1:30pm Science Heaven & Earth 2:00pm America's Story 2 (history) 2:30pm done for the day FREE PLAY with brother 4pm "ish" friends are home from school and the kids go out to play until dinnertime or afterschool activities depending on the day. Friday's have a different schedule: Friday's are light days so on Friday we do a group lesson on US Geography and a few pages out of "One Blood for kids- what the Bible says about race" to confront the notion of "races" as there is 1 race -the human race made in the image and glory of Yah (God) ->Gen 1:26 and the kids have that ASL lesson. Actual school time varies for her 3-4 hours per day... But breaks, free play, a walk etc are woven in as needed. That is a pretty typical schedule, but if she feels perky and starts school early she has on occasion been done by 12:30pm and then has tv time or tablet time (limited 2 hours) or outdoor time available. Our 1st grader's school day is much shorter typically 1-2 hours. Even so this allows for a lot of flexibility for both kids and less stress! I have some flexibility with work and do introduce anything new and teach throughout the day as needed. If they have questions they can wait patiently until I am free and I answer as I go along. Because we do homeschool though if something is going to take significant time it can always wait until the afternoon/evening when things settle down a bit. On occasion we have introduced new topics like fractions or place value on Sunday evening so the work is not brand new on Monday morning. We also do lots of arts and crafts- kind of a running joke about my decor- our living room has kids art on the main wall, both of their bedrooms have art all over the walls, and my office space as well. We love art and the availability for them to have fun and be expressive and creative! All in all Abba Yah has blessed us abundantly and the children have flourished! Their education has been and can be catered to their individual abilities and topics in science that they are interested in (as well as being able to pick elective classes) AND.....after work for me, and the kids school for them is completed, and any after school activitites like sports or American Heritage Girls or Trail Life.... I am taking online class in the evening for medical coding certificates for CPC "Certified Professional coding" and COC "Certified Outpatient Coding" It's a busy and blessed life which makes the weekly Shabbat such a blessing to observe and spend time with Abba and the Holy Appointed Times throughout the yr to slow down and dwell with Him and our family in Messiah! I hope this little entry has blessed, encouraged or inspired you in some way. Be blessed in Messiah Yeshua friends and scattered family! Z is wrapping up the section in her art class that has taught about different types of lines: vertical, parallel, horizontal, scalloped, wavy, curly etc This was a fun project to close out that chapter and O wanted to do it too so they both just got creative and had fun with it! (foil, yarn, glue, and markers) This was not a difficult project and both of kids had fun :) Curriculum source: Masterbooks Math level 1
Recently our youngest son began learning place value. This is from a few weeks ago. We are using the cups to teach the process of place value as instructed in Masterbooks. Now, you can use beans, beads, or other small items to put into the cups to teach. So far he is catching on great! I love having the opportunity to watch the kids learn and grow on their own journey's. For introduction purposes we used the mathlink cubes in image 3! But we will also use beans from here forward... Fun times ahead! Do you have a fun learning moment or homeschool moment to share!? Please let us know in the comments or on facebook :) Be blessed in Messiah Yeshua friends and scattered family! This was a FREE church held community fall harvest festival with: games, bounce houses, food, cotton candy, face painting and more! The kids had a blast and this is something I try to weave into each fall at one of several churches that offer such events in early fall.
We also tend to take a field trip to the Apple Orchard---that is still to come! |
