Teaching our 9 yr old discernment... It's a new process and we learn as we grow...
Typically before the kids watch a movie or tv show that we have not seen before I look for reviews from various sources. One of my favorites is: Movies Archive - Plugged In However this particular review did not come from plugged in. Our daughter wanted to watch a new show that she has never seen before so I got to work on google looking for reviews. I found the following: "has a very strong moral worldview with a focus on family and teaching children right from wrong. Some characters may misbehave, but the parents address and correct the misbehaviors within the episode. Almost all moral and character issues are addressed within the 25-minute show. However, there are some questionable elements. The characters often take the Lord’s name in vain." Now there was more in that review that would have disqualified the show from viewing in this house. But none the less it is "approved for kids 8+" it is rated G and available on Netflix. However instead of just telling her this show has unacceptable, with disrespectful content and shutting it down I wanted to use it for a learning opportunity. SO I read her the full description and asked her to DISCERN whether it was honoring to God and something we should set before our eyes and offer into our ears. And she determined, "No, because that is rude to God" She was still bummed... a little bit but she made the correct determination on her own. Ultimately in raising children THAT is what we want for them to be self-sufficient and sustaining to honor God with the guidance of the Holy Spirit in growing that faith walk. SHEMA! Love Adonai your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These words, which I am commanding you today, are to be on your heart. You are to teach them diligently to your children, and speak of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down and when you rise up. Deut 6:6-7 TLV Train up a child in the way he should go, when he is old he will not turn from it. Prov 22:6 TLV I hope this little post has been a blessing. Be blessed in Messiah Yeshua friends and scattered family!

We utilize Masterbooks for all book work and these 2 images come from "Language Lessons for a Living Education, level 4" Masterbooks is a non-denominational curriculum but as we all know Shabbat and the Feasts are in the Bible with specific instructions. This post is really just to take a moment and appreciate the curriculum for having these things woven in at the appropriate time of year so that as: Torah Observant believers, Shabbat, and Feast keepers we can have these beautiful and easy to understand lessons to teach our children! It is woven into Language as a reading comprehension lesson. This was the case last yr as well with level 3 so yr to yr it is a blessing upon our children and family! If you would like to read more about The Feast of Trumpets click here: The Feast of trumpets (pursuingtheupwardcall.com) If you would like to read more about the Day of Atonement click here: Day of Atonement -2021 (pursuingtheupwardcall.com) (*side note they do also have mention of "Christmas" while the children do know what Christmas is because of our history and extended family - we do remove those lessons, -) Hello everyone! To those who observe the Feasts I hope you have had or are having a blessed Feast of Sukkot/Tabernacles! We try to do a couple of crafts each yr and this yr these are the 2 we did.
The first one with the little tents of construction paper were part of our Shabbat lesson from Trained up in Torah: click here>: (3) Abram and Lot- Sabbath School - YouTube We watch an episode every week for kids church. The painting was just a simple and fun craft from the dollar store! Blessings in Messiah friends and scattered family! |
