Well we are wrapping up semester 1 next week and I just got their binders all ready for the start of semester 2 (3rd quarter)! BIG things have been accomplished. Z, level 4: has overcome multiplication review, long division and math with fractions... learning about the ocean: waves, erosion, hurricanes, ocean floor etc in science, working on writing stamina, paragragh details, punctuation and detail, and parts of speech.....and oh so much in American History we are into the 1800's now O, level 1: is working on building confidence in reading level 1 books like the "I can read" series, Learning about other countries, cultures etc in Social Studies we just finished a week on the continent of Africa and "visiting" different countries...Learning about the parts of plants and pollination in science, and place value, adding, subtracting, and counting by: 2's, 5's, 10's and 20's! They have worked hard, we have had fun and it has been rewarding! Blessings and Shalom from our family to yours; as you continue to "pursue the upward calling of God in Messiah Yeshua"-Phil 4:13

( Hello friends! Let's close out this week with a little academic update!
These examples are from Math Level 4: Masterbooks. About a month ago our 9 year old starting learning long division and it just wasn't clicking for her as quickly as she would have liked. She grew frustrated and cried a few times, actually. But not due to parental pressure.....due to her own expectations. I was able to hug her and help her process by letting her know, "Hey, first breathe..... second you need to know not everything is going to come easy for you...what challenges you may not challenge your brothers and sisters and vice versa. That is part of life and that is ok. But you know what? God created you with the ability to do hard things. You can do this and we will practice together and make it make sense for YOU." ( I really treasure opportunities like this to educate the whole child. We get the privilege by Adonai to train them in the Word daily. By homeschooling them we also have the unique opportunity to see these emotional struggles as they happen. PAUSE, and help the child cope and address them before moving on.-- this often includes letting them break for recess or, maybe a 15 minute walk, exercise, or another calming outlet to exit the situation, regroup, and come back with a clear mind) My husband and his techy self cast his phone to the TV and worked through several problems with her using it like a projector basically. Then guess what we can do? Pause the textbook work! It's fabulous! Freedom I was never accustomed to growing up myself. But we just paused her book work and pulled practice worksheets off the internet and handwrote problems for her to work which you see above on the notebook paper and we did that for 3 weeks. A series of repetitive steps worked for her: 1.) How many times does the divisor fit into the dividend? 2) multiply the quotient and divisor 3) subtract 4) bring down the next dividend and repeat until you get a 0 (until we moved onto remainders) This wk after that near month long break from "the book" to practice 4-10 problems a day. Now she's confident and ready to move onto remainders! That's my girl! It's not a race. At the end of the day her success and understanding is what makes it all worthwhile. Homeschooling has given us the ability to help teach our children coping mechanisms for the tough times. You press forward, you got this, and it's ok if it's hard. Our kids do not get left behind as a class pushes ahead which is sadly what happened to me and it left me hating math all the way through college, actually I don't like it now in my 30's. We can pace, adjust, and work with them and what works for them! Now she's ready to soar into the next new thing and she had a smile on her face after working those few division problems with remainders! I hope this encourages someone. There is a celebration with every new success even the ones that came with the growth of frustration, a few tears, and a pause in the schedule....because the schedule is not what matters..... the child is. Those victories are the ones hard fought for that build her up to face bigger challenges. The next challenge that comes along she will be better prepared mentally and emotionally to press into it. Amen. Let's talk about yucky weather and winter activities. I am excited about this post! So lots of people wonder when you homeschool what to do to keep the kids entertained when the weather is not suitable for going outdoors. I have set up a gallery of pictures/ideas of stuff we do for you to browse through. These kids have no shortage of imaginative play and personally I think THAT has a huge part in it. Screen time is limited in our home. to about 1 hr of tv per child and 1 hour of tablet time per child with a cut off at 8pm. One example yesterday: I gave them each a cardboard box, markers, crayons, and scissors and they were entertained building their "cars" for over 2 hours. Utilizing their imagination, motor skills, creativity etc. Indoors they have lots of: connect sticks, legos, blocks, puzzles, games like Ker-Plunk, Jenga, musical Hot Potato and art supplies as well. We also utilize the garage a lot as a kind of "gym" they roller blade in the garage when the weather is not favorable outside and jump rope, play games, and use some of the messier toys out there. We have a speaker set up so they can listen to parental approved music too. We also pull up kids workout videos on youtube occasionally so they can get out the wiggles and get some cardio: 1) Kids HIIT Workout 2 - YouTube 2) Wild Animals Exercise for Kids | Learn about the BIG 5 Animals | Indoor Workout for Children - YouTube 3) 12 MINUTE FULL BODY WORKOUT FOR KIDS | NO REPEATS - YouTube If they say the infamous, "I'm bored!" I set a timer for 15 minutes and pick 4 "centers" they spend 15 minutes in each center and rotate to the next one when the timer goes off. There goes an hour! Or they can have quiet time to read a book. Skim through the pics and tell me what you think! What are some ideas of things you do with your kiddos? As many of you know we use Masterbooks as our primary base curriculum and sprinkle in IXL, Spelling City and various hands on activities into our homeschool.
Well hello everyone! Little man's science lesson last week was on Photosynthesis and this week it is on Day 3 of creation dry land and plants. *side note, if you need a catchy theme song for photosynthesis this is a fave around here: Photosynthesis | Two Little Hands TV | Educational | Kids Songs - YouTube * Back on point Basically I purchased a bouquet of flowers from Kroger for $5 and we dissected the parts of the flower and the kids got to examine them under a magnifying glass and microscope! We talked about what fine details Yah put into such delicate, beautiful little living creations! And hoow much more value are we then they in the eyes of our Abba Yah. Both children greatly enjoy little hands on science projects like this and they are not expensive. The book and lesson is from: Adventures in Creation, Masterbooks level 1 "Look at the birds of the air. They do not sow or reap or gather into barns; yet your Father in heaven feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? And why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow. They neither toil nor spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. Now if in this way God clothes the grass—which is here today and thrown into the furnace tomorrow—will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ For the pagans eagerly pursue all these things; yet your Father in heaven knows that you need all these. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” MT 6:26-34 TLV cource material: Masterbooks.com *side note DISCLAIMER: I do not receive compensation from ANY of the resources I share or use.
